Evelien Griffioen

Evelien is a design and innovation strategist from The Netherlands, based in Cape Town, and Customer Insight Lead at Yoco. Yoco is an African technology company that builds tools and services to help small businesses get paid, run their business better, and grow. Evelien joined Yoco several months ago, leaving the innovation consultancy space behind where, over the years, she worked closely with multinationals, NGOs and start-ups on innovation and design strategies responding to complex and fast changing environments. Some of her work includes generating a new perspective on the changing notion of trust, and a framework to support designing for trust in the new technology environment. With a six-headed international team of anthropologists and designers she has created a new perspective on the digital native generation, their lifestyles, values and behaviours, developing tools to help a global consortium of financial service providers identify, develop and activate new value propositions. She zoomed in on understanding what our new ‘operation systems’ need to be to fully take benefit of new age innovation methodologies and tools such as agile, design thinking and lean innovation. And recently, she was part of designing ‘The Creative Leadership Collective Africa’, Africa’s first Community of Innovation Strategy, Management and Practice, which aims to help its members create an environment that empowers their colleagues and partners to innovate better, to share, to learn and generate better results. Evelien has also been a mentor at Startupbootcamp IoT & Data in Barcelona and Barclays Rise in Cape Town.
