Gontse Mbelu

Service Designer at Praekelt

A self-published author and proud member of the #BeyHive, Gontse is a Service Designer at Praekelt.org, a globally distributed non-profit organisation that designs and builds mobile technologies to improve the health and wellbeing of people living in poverty. Over a decade old, the organisation has reached over 100 million people in 62 countries.

Having earned an Msc ICT4D (with distinction) from the University of Manchester, with a background in Business Analysis consulting, Gontse has a heart for Philanthropy.  She has a one year old son, and her talents are well-utilised on the technical team for Praekelt’s maternal health platforms.

MomConnect is a South African National Department of Health initiative which supports maternal health through the use of cell phone based technologies integrated into maternal and child health services. MomConnect is the only nationally integrated mHealth platform in Africa, available in all clinics in South Africa with over 1.8 million mothers registered since its inception in August 2014.

When she’s not being a diversity activist in training and advocating for the “H”s in HCD, Gontse can be found with her nose in a book or driving her beloved husband crazy.
